For Don McGowan connecting with nature through photography and connecting with photography through nature are one and the same, for in both he finds his own path to the creative process. He has been a professional nature photographer for fourteen years and has taught in some of the most highly respected arts and crafts schools in the East, including the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina and the CraftSummer Program at Miami University of Ohio. He has been published in a wide variety of media, including such publications as National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps, Preservation, Smokies Life, Outdoor Photographer, and National Parks Conservation Association magazines, and the annual reports of numerous non-profit cultural and environmental organizations. His fine art prints are found in private collections and he is represented in several galleries throughout western North Carolina. His purpose as an artist and as an instructor is to share the beauty of the natural world through photography.
